NaNoWriMo 2009: Close to the halfway point

It was a close thing. Yesterday I was this close to calling it quits for NaNo. My eyes felt like sand on ice, my nose kept running, my bunny didn't want to eat, and I hated my story. I can deal with the late nights, the itchy scratchy eyes, and my sick bunny, but now that I hated my story I felt like all my sacrifices was for nought. A big fat zero. Why not call it a day and wait until next year? It was a very low point.
Then I was at my comics shop (Gecko's, for those in the know) when I saw this compilation of comics dealing with witches. Aha! My mind immediately latched onto the first scene of Macbeth (my fave Shakespeare play, by the way) with those three creepy witches around the cauldron and my story was saved. Hooray! The witches opened up angles in my story that allowed for better conflict and better characters with lots more to do and say. Words, more words I say!
After that revelation I sat down last night and cranked out 2700+ words, adding more backstory and conversation to the first few chapters. I'm about a thousand words short of where I'd like to be but I can make that up today now that I know where my characters are going and why. Always good, knowing the why.
Oh yes, Benjamin Bunny is doing fine and running around like a mad bunny. Had a bit of an upset tummy, pooed, and now all is right with the world. Now it's back to writing...
